Ms. Pennington's Repoussé Written Reflection
I chose the song Egyptic by Beats Antique. I wanted a song that was without vocals, only instrumental.
The shapes and the textures of the design reflect the rhythms and patterns of the music. Some parts of the music curve and swell. Some parts have low vibrating sounds, almost like static. The repetition of phrases is reflected in the repeating round shapes that remind me of cymbals.
I made a bunch of loose sketches while listening to the song. Then I pulled the most engaging shapes from those sketches and tried different combinations. The elements fit together nicely in a square format, though I also tried circle and rectangle formats. In the square, the elements felt balanced.
The major swirl is the most important element in the foreground as it represents the song as a whole. The middle ground holds the repeating cymbal shapes as a supporting element. The static-like texture lies in the background and surrounds all the other elements.
